Extra curricular activities

Music program

Music is an important part of the SIPS curriculum. Our school is lucky to have a dedicated music teacher who brings music to life at our school. Music is a fun activity that enhances social, intellectual and academic development. Musical activities help develop focus, concentration, memory and spatial reasoning, and provide an avenue for self-expression.  Music enhances self-esteem and confidence, which has a positive effect on children's learning.  It also equips students with skills that could be developed further to provide great pleasure in their adult life.

Students from Kindergarten to Year 4 enjoy music lessons every week. Learning activities are fun and include singing, body percussion, reading and writing music, recorder, xylophone, percussion, music appreciation and dance.

All these activities are also aimed at developing a great appreciation of music. Over the years, students are introduced to the ‘orchestra', the role of the ‘composer' and the ‘conductor', and the four music families.  In Years 3 and 4, students examine how different instruments produce their sound, and how a composer can effectively use instruments, and different musical elements, such as pitch, tempo, dynamics and duration to produce a required sound.

Music, in all its fascinating forms, is an important part of school life at SIPS.
