St Ives is part of the Ku-ring-gai area of Sydney, originally the home of the Aboriginal Guringai people. European settlement of the area dates from the 1820s. Initially logged for timber, the European settlers then developed the area for farms and orchards. The St Ives district remained largely rural until the 1950s when it was rezoned as a residential area, and the population expanded.
The original St Ives Public School, and school residence opened in May 1889 and stood on the corner of Mona Vale and Rosedale Roads. These historic buildings are now in use as a gallery and two restaurants.
Our school, St Ives Public school was established in 1962 to provide for the growing community.
The Old School Trattoria today, sits on the site of the original St Ives Public School.
